Sunday Snap – The Home of Golf

We were in Edinburgh for last week's Sunday Snap with a statue of an acclaimed Scottish writer. I asked who this was and the answer is

Sir Walter Scott

Scribbling down the right answer were Susan and Cheryl.

For this week we're off for a round of golf at the home of golf. The game of golf was first played on this links course in the 15th century. Despite its historic and high ranking status the land it is situated on is a public course on common land. It is not usually open on Sundays except for competition days. In order to play on the Old Course you need to put your name down on the waiting list and hope you are in luck. This can be done months in advance but there is also a daily ballot. Although it is a public course there is still a rather high fee to pay for the privilege of playing a round of golf here. The Open Championship has been played on this course 29 times and as the recognised home of golf it is granted the competition every five years.

Along with the famous Old Course and six other courses along this coastline the building by the first tee is the club house of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club. Until a vote in 2014 the club had a male-only membership policy. It was originally one of the ruling bodies of the game of golf but this was handed over to separate authority known as The R&A in 2004. Now it is simply a golf club but one which attracts a high waiting list for membership. This week's Sunday Snap question is

Where is this golf course?

We were joined last week by Susan and a skating Pingu. It was start of the snail season for Cheryl. Kara has been to the Lanes in Brighton and gaining swimming medals.

If you want to join in with this week's Sunday Snap then add your link to the linky below. Any theme is allowed. It doesn't have to be published today as you have until 23.55 on Friday 19th May 2017 to join in. Grab my badge below for your blog post. 1. I'm not 100% but I think it's St Andrews. Been a while since I've seen the golf course. Hope you're well x

  3. I have no idea!I think golf is so boring to watch and play...all that walking! (well unless you hire a cart but I've not been on a golf course that big.) This looks like a majestic place though and I can understand why membership is sought after and it costs so much.
