Bolsover Castle
We're crossing counties for
this week's Sunday Snap with a jaunt into Yorkshire. Since today is
Pentecost, which is often regarded as the birthday of the Christian
church, I thought I would delve into the religious buildings archive.
This cathedral is one of three cathedrals of equal status of the seat
of the Bishop of Leeds. This is despite it not being near Leeds or
even in West Yorkshire. The original church was founded in the 7th
century by St. Wilfred. It did not become a cathedral until 1836 when
the first Anglican diocese since the Reformation was established.
With a weekly market it is in a bustling but small city situated on
the River Ure and is also known for its racecourse. This week's
question is
Which cathedral is this?
We were joined last week by
Betty
with some wonderful views of the sea at Kaupokonui. There was a
selection of very delicate blooms on show with Sue.
On Sam's
travels she found some brewery history with the vintage tile sign.

I'll
share my favourites with you next week and remember I do like a bit
of a tale to go with a photo but it's not a necessity!
Seems like a strange place to put the clock !
ReplyDeleteRipon Cathedral - I've been there, but it's been a long time since I went to Yorkshire apart from passing through.
ReplyDeleteIt's Ripon :) My friend lives near there in a little country village but I've still not explored the cathedral. Need to do this soon!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea but it looks like a very grand perhaps a little spooky place to visit! x
ReplyDeleteNot to far from me this one. Ripon
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen a clock on a Cathedral before, will have to show this to my other half as he was sure you could tell the difference between a church and a city hall because a church would never have a clock on it.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I know this one. I used to live not a million miles away. It's Ripon Cathedral.
ReplyDeleteI think it's Ripon too - my children sang there the year before last x x
ReplyDeleteI love religious buildings - a great photo. Have no clue where it is though!
ReplyDeleteI love cathedrals and churches
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not one that I am familiar with I have to admit x
ReplyDeleteA lovely photo and an imposing façade!
ReplyDeleteWhy can I never get these??! One day soon I'm determined to!
ReplyDeleteNo idea! It is a very grand - if a bit spooky - place. Kaz x
