Baker Days Letterbox Cake

Since I am the Chief Baking Officer (CBO) at JibberJabber Towers the subject of birthday cakes can be a tricky one when it comes to my own birthday. Do I bake my own or await to see what is bought for me? Most of the decorated cakes on sale at my local supermarket feature children's characters which is great if you're under 10 years old but not for anyone older. This is where Baker Days comes in.

Baker Days is a mail-order cake company selling a range of birthday cakes, occasion cakes and cupcakes. One of their main selling points is that they produce a range of cakes known as the Letterbox cake which is packaged so it will fit through a standard sized letterbox. If you are sending anyone a gift you're not going to be wanting to have your delivery stuck at the sorting office or lobbed over the gate!
I have to admit I was a bit sceptical as to the condition the cake would arrive in. After all it needs to go on a journey involving being transported by road, the sorting office and then carried around before being dropped through my letterbox. With all of this I did expect a box of cake crumbs but I was completely wrong! Upon opening the box there's a small greetings card, a package containing balloons, blowout and two candles plus of course the special metal tin containing the cake. On the Baker Days website there's a selection of designs to choose from but like mine you can have your own photograph or design made.

Another nice touch is that there is a selection of cake recipes to choose from. Mine was a vanilla sponge cake but the other options are chocolate chip sponge cake, fruit cake, gluten wheat free cake and a dairy free cake. Prices for the Letterbox cake start from £14.99 rising in accordance with the size and destination of the cake. I have to say I love the idea of being able to send a cake securely through the post and the thought of spreading the cake love.

I was sent a Letterbox cake from Baker Days for review purposes. The words, photographs and opinions are my own.
