Sunday Snap – Peak District church in the snow

We had a trip to Covent Garden for last week's Sunday Snap with the Paddington Bear statute. Quite appropriately this multicoloured, striped interpretation of Paddington is called 'Rainbow'. Well done to Rachel and Steph who both got the correct answer as to the designer of this Paddington. It was of course the very beautiful and very talented

Darcey Bussell

For this week we are back up north in the Peak District. It's been suitably wintry of late in these parts with not only snow but rainstorms and gales. In the brief calm we managed to nip out to the Peak District to find some snow that remained untouched. The church you can see serves as a parish church for the ducal estate village it is in. It was redesigned by the architect Sir George Gilbert Scott in the 19th century and incorporates some of the original building. In the graveyard you will find the tombs of many of the past Dukes as well as Sir Joseph Paxton and Kathleen Kennedy. Paxton was the head gardener at nearby ducal house but also the designer of The Crystal Palace. Kathleen Kennedy was the sister of US President John. F. Kennedy. Shortly before his death in 1963 President Kennedy came to visit his sister grave. This week's question is

Can you name the village or Peak District estate this church is in?

Last week we also had had Leyla of This day I love... join in with her wonderfully atmospheric photograph of Sandal Castle. Do go and check it out!
