Welcome to
October's The Month Ahead. The clock's go back at the end of
this month which means longer nights – perfect for Halloween! Let's
have a look at some of the traditional feasts and festivals, events
and exhibitions that are happening around the UK this month.
1st-6th
October - Truro
Trend. See the latest fashions and grab some great deals in local
shops as fashion and beauty takes over Truro. Don't miss the catwalk
display in Truro Cathedral.
11th-15th
October – Walk
Scilly Weekend. Choose one of the islands and find a walk to suit
you. Find out about the history, wildlife and the way of life on
these beautiful islands.
12th
October - 4th November - Ramster
Garden, Chiddingfold, Surrey. The autumn opening of the gardens
includes maples, sculptures and a tranquil lake.
12th-14th
October - Hertford
Food and Drink Festival. Across the weekend take part in cookery
classes, buy at the farmers' market and indulge at the street food
stalls.
13th
and 20th October - Ocean
Film Festival, Bristol. Dive into a selection of sea themed films
with tales of surfers, rowers and marine life.
13th-31st
October – Screamland,
Margate. Dreamland is turned into the horror filled Screamland each
October with 7 mazes and rides to go on. Not for the faint-hearted!
24th
October - Victorian
Schoolroom Experience, Reading Museum. Step back in time and feel
what it was like to learn the '3Rs'.
25th
October - 4th November - Whitby
Abbey. The setting of Bram Stoker's vampire novel Dracula is the
perfect place to enjoy Halloween. The Abbey will be illuminated in
the evening plus there will be special spooky events for the
children.
26th
October - Fulham
Palace Museums at Night. As part of the October Museums at Night
Festival Fulham Palace will be going back in time for a Tudor
Treasure Hunt. Solve the puzzles while encountering bishops, thieves
and queens!
26th-27th
October - Colchester
Oktoberfest. The great German beer festival comes to Essex with
traditional Bavarian entertainment, food and drink.
