A street art parody of a
famous painting was the subject of last week's Sunday
Snap. The piece by Banksy was an homage to Johannes Vermeer's
Girl with a Pearl Earring
For this week we're off to
Wales and to be more precise Cardiff. After visiting the Doctor Who Experience we walked round to the other side of Cardiff Bay.
There's an impressive range of buildings in this area with the
standout one being the Wales Millennium Centre (which has featured in
various episodes of Doctor Who and the spin off series
Torchwood). Originally the site was designated for the Cardiff
Bay Opera House but funding for the project was difficult to obtain
and it was scrapped. The new plans incorporated a wider range of
cultural interests. Today the Wales Millennium Centre is home to
writing, Welsh language, opera, acting, dance, music and educational
organisations. The unusual design, nicknamed The Armadillo, is made
from a variety of Welsh sourced materials – Welsh slate, stainless
steel made near Pontypool, wood from managed Welsh forests and glass
made in Swansea. On the front is two lines of verse but not the same
one in Welsh and English. Both were written by Gwyneth Lewis and the
Welsh line is Creu Gwir fel gwydr o ffwrnais awen which
translates as Creating truth like glass from the furnace of
inspiration. The English
line is In These Stones Horizons Sing. My
teaser for this week is
What year was the Wales
Millennium Centre opened?
I will warn you that
'Millennium' doesn't mean it was opened in the year 2000 and anyone
who states that will have Daleks from the Doctor Who Experience
unleashed upon them!
We were joined last week by
Cheryl
and the rare sight of a twinned rainbow. Sophie
was at a kite contest on the beach. There was lots of bedtime smiles
over at Susan's.
On Kirsty's
stroll the dogs and the children were walking two by two. Finally,
Kelly
was shining not one but two lights with her double wick candle.
