Weekend Box Club

With snow on the ground, pavements too treacherous to walk on and an icy north wind blowing the thought of venturing out at the weekend is not an appealing one. With this in mind it was time to give our Weekend Box a try.
Weekend Box is a subscription based service in which every two weeks a little box of crafting goodies and inspiration is delivered to you. The box is cleverly designed to ensure it fits through your post box so no need for any pesky trips to the sorting office.
The box we received had the theme of the Aztecs. There was three crafting activities – a mosaic coaster, parrot and pattern prints. Once you've completed these there is a recipe and spices for a special hot chocolate. The boxes are designed for ages 4-6. Master JibberJabber is four years old but is not known for his enthusiasm for crafting activities. However his nine year old sister was very interested at giving all the crafts a go.
Each of the activities comes in an individual brightly coloured paper envelope and has a separate instruction sheet. On the instruction sheet there are also some fun facts connected to the activity. The majority of what you need comes in the box. For the parrot we needed loo rolls but found some in our recycling box. There was a bit of a hunt for some glue but eventually we found some. For some of the activities we used sticky tape instead.
For the parrot some powder paint was supplied but since it needed to dry before it could be decorated we used some of our own tissue paper to cover it. Master JibberJabber did enjoy making this parrot and picking out the colours (wearing a Superman costume with a sonic screwdriver and R2D2 close by helps). The feathers, googly eyes and other bits all came with the box.
While we were doing this Miss JibberJabber had already started on the mosaic coaster by herself. The tiles were on a self-sticking sheet so she was able to cut the shapes she wanted herself and put them in a pattern.
For the prints we needed some cardboard to glue the string to. Another search through the recycling and we found a cereal box to cut up. The length of string was only long enough for one print but we did have plenty more. It came supplied with coloured paper to stamp onto and plenty of powder paint. The paint is in resealable packets so you can just make up small quantities at a time. We haven't made the hot chocolate yet. I think a long walk in the cold is in order for the hot chocolate to be a suitable reward!
If you fancy giving Weekend Box a try for free, yes free!, head on over to their website here and enter the promo code VANESSA212. This offer is valid for new customers only please and just one free box is allowed per household.

We were sent a Weekend Box for review purposes. The thoughts, opinions and photographs are all our own.
