Sunday Snap - The Yorkshire Cathedral

A party palace and a hilltop Derbyshire location was the subject of last week's Sunday Snap of Cavendish's Castle. Anyone driving along the M1 between junctions 29 and 30 can see the magnificent Little Castle and Terrace façade of

Bolsover Castle

Well done to Kate and Sam (whom I missed by a day on my visit ) who got the correct answer.

We're crossing counties for this week's Sunday Snap with a jaunt into Yorkshire. Since today is Pentecost, which is often regarded as the birthday of the Christian church, I thought I would delve into the religious buildings archive. This cathedral is one of three cathedrals of equal status of the seat of the Bishop of Leeds. This is despite it not being near Leeds or even in West Yorkshire. The original church was founded in the 7th century by St. Wilfred. It did not become a cathedral until 1836 when the first Anglican diocese since the Reformation was established. With a weekly market it is in a bustling but small city situated on the River Ure and is also known for its racecourse. This week's question is

Which cathedral is this?

We were joined last week by Betty with some wonderful views of the sea at Kaupokonui. There was a selection of very delicate blooms on show with Sue. On Sam's travels she found some brewery history with the vintage tile sign.

  6. I don't think I've ever seen a clock on a Cathedral before, will have to show this to my other half as he was sure you could tell the difference between a church and a city hall because a church would never have a clock on it.
