Flowers in November

It really shouldn't be like this. It has gone past the middle of November and flowers that have been blooming since the summer are still in bright colour.
I took all of these photographs yesterday in my Yorkshire garden. Like many people in the UK we have had only one frost this autumn and this wasn't particularly hard. Last year was a very mild winter and if you believe the weather reports it seems rain rather than snow will be falling from the sky in the coming weeks.
I'm very conscious of the weather everyday as I drag the kids up and down the road to school and nursery. This time four years ago I had a two and half week old baby and a couple of days later the snow came and didn't melt until after the new year. Then there was the year it seemed to snow every week from January to March. Thankfully by then I had an all-terrain pushchair.
So still going strong are the geraniums both the red ones and the pink ones still in bud. I took the petunias out of the pots weeks and weeks ago but decided to keep the geraniums in as they still looked nice. Even with that one frost they don't seem to be showing any signs of blackening.
We have fuchsias in pots which we never took in last year and they survived the winter. Then there are the fuchsias planted in the ground. These are all very different varieties but seem to be thriving. One of them we bought from Chesterfield Market and it was grown on a nursery in the High Peak. If it was able to cope with those conditions no wonder there are still flowers on it now.
Mr JibberJabber has a particular fondness for fuchsias and on our visits to the Isle Of Wight he kept seeing delicate pink and white fuchsias. On a visit to a local garden centre last year we saw one for sale. It was just a single stem but has thrived in a sheltered spot in our front garden.
It's not just geraniums and fuchsias that are still flowering. On my daily walks I have spotted roses of all colours and varieties. There's even a row of white Japanese Anemones with no regard to the fact it's November. What flowers are still blooming in your garden?

  1. Your hydrangea looks exactly like mine and our geraniums are also still flowering :) The weather doesn't know what it's doing at the moment. We seem to have a very mild day followed by a very cold one. Lovely fuchsia pics!

  3. We've had our first hard frosts and our hydrangea has completely wilted, as they do! I adore fuchsias, one of my favourites, lovely to still see yours flowering x #HDYGG

  4. Lovely photos. We too still have fuchsia and geraniums blooming! We've had no frost as yet though... I had a baby in Nov 2010 and it snowed that year, and a baby in Dec 2012, and it also snowed! We must be due more snow this year I think (although no baby for me this winter ;-) )

  6. Yes, I noticed some bulbs I planted earlier have begun to sprout-so if it gets very cold they are going to suffer I think.

  7. It's bonkers weather isn't it? Our fuschias are still out but the dahlias have had enough. And the begonias still going strong. I am happy though to still get a bit of fuschia love this late into the year :)

  12. Whilst our garden does not have loads of flowers even in summer those we do have are still flowering thanks to the mild weather ... will we pay for this later though or will we have another mild winter? The boys want snow but I don't!
