The Month Ahead - September 2018

Welcome to September's The Month Ahead. Schools are back this month and there's a change in the seasons from summer to autumn. Let's have a look at some of the traditional feasts and festivals, events and exhibitions that are happening around the UK this month.

1st September - Festival of Fireworks, Catton House. The skies of Derbyshire are lit up for the 20th year for the UK's fireworks spectacular. With displays choreographed to music plus a steam rally and food festival.

1st September - Classic Ibiza, Hatfield House. Relive those heady days of summer in Hertfordshire as the Urban Soul Orchestra perform a number of classic Ibiza anthems.

1st-2nd September - Faversham Hop Festival. The heritage of hop picking in Kent is celebrated with traditional music and dance and of course a few of the local beers!

1st-23rd September - The Great North Art Show, Ripon. The ancient setting of Ripon Cathedral plays host to some of the finest painters, illustrators, printmakers, photographers and sculptors.

1st-30th September - Taste of Scilly. Over the Isles of Scilly the best in local produce is showcased for a whole month. Take in a tour of a farm or watch a demonstration on how to make the perfect pasty.

4th-9th September - RHS Garden Wisley Flower Show 2018. The annual round of RHS shows moves onto Surrey with a host of seasonal displays. The National Dahlia Society will be showcasing the best in dahlia cultivation.

6th-9th and 13th-16th September – Heritage Open Days. Across the country public access is given to buildings and places normally closed off. Look out for local listings on openings and talks.

8th-9th September - Festival of Bikes, Cheltenham. The Town Hall is turned into biker's heaven with custom and classic motorbikes plus clothing and accessories.

14th-23rd September - Jane Austen Festival, Bath. Lovers of Mr Darcy and all things Regency join together for costumed parades, talks and performances.

21st-24th September - Biggar Science Festival. This year's theme is 'Science Past, Present and Future' with hands-on activities, talks and shows.

24th-29th September - Eastleigh Film Festival. Film buffs are in for a treat as screenings of cult, iconic and classic films are shown throughout the week.

All events are subject to change. Please check with the organisers before travelling.
