Sunday Snap – Yule Ball

Yule Ball
We were down on the Kent coast for last week's Sunday Snap of the oyster town. I asked which town was famous for its Native Oysters and the answer is

Whistable

Shucking the shells open with the right answer were Susan, Kara and Kate.

Now it's December it's time to get festive. This magnificent ice sculpture was part of the Yule Ball held at a famous fictional boarding school. When the international Triwizard Tournament is on the Yule Ball is part of it and is held on Christmas Day night. The Triwizard Tournament was first established over 700 years ago but was stopped for over a century due to the amount of deaths that occurred due to the dangerous nature of the challenges. The other two schools taking part were the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic from France and the Eastern European Durmstrang Institute. Sadly the past repeated itself and Cedric Diggory ends up being murdered by the most notorious wizard of all time during the third task.

The Yule Ball is takes place between the first and second tasks. It is a dazzling occasion where the school is transformed into a winter wonderland. The ball is opened by the contestants of the Triwizard Tournament dancing with their chosen partners. Dressed in their best and finest clothes the students dance the night away. For many it is the best night of their lives and they wished it would never end. For others midnight could not come soon enough. This week's question is

What is the name of the school for witches and wizards?

We were joined last week by Susan and some Christmas magic in Manchester.
