The Month Ahead – November 2018

Welcome to November's The Month Ahead. It's the month for fireworks and remembrance. With Christmas getting closer you'll also find some festive events about. Let's have a look at some of the traditional feasts and festivals, events and exhibitions that are happening around the UK this month.

2nd to 3rd November - Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival. The Somerset town sees a Lantern Parade and fireworks display on the Friday. The Carnival makes its way through Bridgwater on the Saturday evening.

2nd to 12th November - Leap Dance Festival. The annual Liverpool dance event centres on a theme of 100 years of women having the vote. Each dance performance will have a female focus.

4th November - Dovedale Dash. The Derbyshire countryside is filled again for the 62nd running of this race through fields, valleys and over the stepping stones on the River Dove. Sign on to run on the day.

10th November - Doki Doki. The Manchester Japanese Festival returns with a celebration of modern and traditional Japanese culture.

11th November – The 100th Anniversary of the Armistice takes place this year. As usual church services and civic events will be taking place throughout the country.

15th November to 5th January – RHS Rosemoor GLOW Illuminations. Devon is lit up with the annual Winter Sculpture Exhibition. Hi-tech colour changing lights provide an amazing winter spectacular.

16th to 25th November - Folkstone Book Festival. The annual Kent literature event boasts the most international programme ever with Indian, American and Turkish days.

17th November to 2nd January - Winchester Cathedral Ice Rink. Children and adults alike will delight in this all-weather ice rink based around a huge Christmas Tree.

18th November - Gloucester Lantern Parade. The annual Christmas Lights Switch-on will be accompanied by a lantern parade throughout the city. This year's theme is 'The Snow Queen'.

30th November to 2nd December - Dickens Christmas Festival. Portsmouth Historic Dockyard travels back in time to recreate the snowy streets as written about by Charles Dickens.

30th November to 2nd December - Fowey Christmas Market. Get into the festive spirit early by heading to Cornwall. A weekend of events provides stalls of handmade gifts and locally produced food and drink.
