The Month Ahead - November 2017

Welcome to November's The Month Ahead. Although Halloween seems to have overtaken Guy Fawkes Night in recent years us Brits still can't resist a good fireworks display. There's plenty of them planned for the coming days. After that the focus turns to Christmas. Get ahead with a visit to one of the festive events planned. Let's have a look at some of the traditional feasts and festivals, events and exhibitions that are happening around the UK this month.

2nd-16th November – Leeds International Film Festival. For things cinematic head to Leeds for talks, documentaries and of course screenings of some of the best international films around.

4th November – Ottery Tar Barrels, Devon. For something different to fireworks head to the village of Ottery St. Mary for the age old custom of carrying burning barrels.

5th November – Dovedale Dash, Derbyshire. If you fancy an exhilarating run through the Peak District across valleys and rivers then the Dovedale Dash is for you. There's no pre-registration so just turn up on the day.

9th-11th November – Festive Flower and Food Show, Blackpool. The Winter Gardens plays host to the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies. See the spectacular displays, take a floral workshop and watch the cookery demonstrations.

22nd November – City of Lights, Truro. This year marks the 21st anniversary of the Cornish lantern parade. The evening takes in music and dance but at the centre of it are the paper lanterns made by the local community.

23rd November - 10th December – Bath Christmas Market. The Georgian streets of Bath provide the perfect backdrop to the atmospheric Christmas market. Over 200 chalets will be selling handmade and local Christmas gifts.

27th November – Lancashire Day. Across the county all things Lancastrian will be celebrated. It is marked to commemorate the day in 1295 when Lancashire sent its first representatives to Parliament by Edward I.

All events are subject to change. Please check with the organisers before travelling.
