Hardwick Hall at Christmas 2018

We took our annual Christmas trip to Hardwick Hall at the weekend and what a difference a year makes! We visited Hardwick Hall on the same weekend last year but then there was snow on the ground. This year we were greeted by blue skies but a very soggy ground owning to the heavy rain in the previous days.
Around the lawn a natural bunting of ivy and willow balls has been made by local groups.
As usual there were a beautiful selection of wreaths all made with materials from the estate.
Inside the house the entrance hall two 16ft Christmas trees make quite an impression. Large swags adorn the huge fireplace.
Winding up the stairs the five angels are busy singing.
Around the house the is an advent trail. Numbered boxes are filled with ornaments and festive figures.
The drawing room is set for a cosy afternoon tea in front of the fire. The perfect place for opening some presents.
The dinning room is always filled with something spectacular at Christmas. This year the table is filled with a paper cut out of Hardwick Hall itself complete with its many windows and of course Bess of Hardwick's initials.
The tables around the sides of the dining room feature a mini village all in paper cut outs as well.
In the chapel the advent trail continues.
It looks like Father Christmas has his work cut out this year. Letters are spilling out of the chimney and there's so many presents still to wrap. But where is he?
Meanwhile in the other bedroom vintage Christmas favourite tunes fill the room as they play on the record player.
Down in the kitchen the preparations are in full swing. Are you ready for Christmas yet?
